Lorna Cherono from the Tegla Lorupe Foundation, is the winner of the National Cross Country Championship 6 km under 20 women’s category.
“It was tough I just came here to try my luck, but I am happy to have won the race, as I look forward to helping my mother,” said elated Cherono
Cherono who finisehd 2nd at the Discouvery cross country shed of stiff competition to outsprint Joyline Chepkemoi in the last lap to cross the finish line first in 21 minutes 11.7 seconds.
Chepkemoi finished 2nd in 21:15.6 minutes followed by Cynthia Chepkuri in 3rd position in 21 minutes 21.1 seconds.
“My aim was to win,but things changed in the last lap. I am happy for the 2nd position. My main aim is to compete in the 1500m and 5000m at the world championship trials,” said Chepkemoi.
The championship was a culmination of the cross country season with athletes now shifting focus to Sirikwa international cross country in two weeks time at the Lobo Vilage in Kapseret.
