Unlucky Kenya defeated by Comoros in COSAFA CUP

The Kenya U23 soccer team suffered a 0-2 loss to Comoros during their second group B match of the ongoing COSAFA Cup played Sunday at Isaac Wolfson stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Kenya was reduced to ten men in the 32nd minute after Paul Ochuoga was shown a second yellow card for fouling a Comoros forward in the box.

Affane Djambae scored the resultant penalty to put Comoros into the lead. Man of the match Djambae grabbed his brace, and Comoros second shortly after restart.

Djambae the tournaments leading goal scorer with three goals slotted home in the 48th minute after being picked out by a defence splitting pass from Kasim Hadji.

Kenya’s comeback efforts were frustrated with a wasteful  forward line that missed several goal scoring opportunities.

Benson Omallla scuffed his 50th minute effort while Chrispine Erambo’s rasping shot hit the woodwork in the 55th minute.

The defeat leaves Kenya third in the pool on three points after their opening 2-0 win against Zambia.

Kenya will now be seeking to bounce back when they face Zimbabwe in their final group B match on Tuesday.

Group winners will automatically qualify for the semi finals alongside two best runners ups.

The 12 team tournament organized by the Council for Southern Africa Football Associations,COSAFA,culminates Sunday July 7th.
