Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has intensified campaign for his African Union Commission chair candidature.

His bid received a boost from President Denis Sassou N’Guesso of the Republic of the Congo.

The two leaders who met Friday discussed various pertinent issues of security, development and climate change which the Azinio leader says are vital to a prosperous and sustainable future.

“Grateful for the insightful meeting with President Denis Sassou N’Guesso of the Republic of the Congo as I advance my AUC bid. His endorsement strengthens our mission” he said.

The meeting comes just a day after he secured an endorsement from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On Thursday, August 15, 2024 Odinga announced that DRC President Felix Tshisekedi had thrown his weight behind his candidature.

He is set to face three other candidates for the position in elections slated for February 2025 during the African Union Summit.
