Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall superstar Christopher Martin is gearing up for his concert in Nairobi set to take place on February 8, 2025.
At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Martin, alongside industry figures such as Chris Darlin, Hype Ballo, Talia Oyando, DJ Kaneda, Watendawili and event organizers Airbeat LLC, outlined plans for the event.
Kenyan music duo Watendawili assured fans of a dynamic showcase featuring seamless mashups and guest appearances. They stated that it will be a blast and will feature nice mashups with surprise acts on stage.
Chris Darlin reinforced the excitement, asserting that it’s going to be ‘fire’ and people cannot afford to miss it.
Similarly, Hype Ballo emphasized the diverse nature of the event, clarifying that it is not necessarily a dancehall or reggae event, as there will be multiple acts from other genres.
Christopher Martin, no stranger to Kenyan audiences, affirmed his commitment to delivering an exceptional show.
“It’s awesome. Every time I’m in Kenya it’s wonderful energy. It’s not the first it’s not the last,” he said. Additionally, he underscored the authenticity of his performance, stressing, “It’s live music, not a playback show.”
Regarding his song selection, Martin confidently disclosed that there are 20 sounds he’s sure he’ll perform. When asked about potential collaborations while in Kenya, he expressed openness, stating, “It wouldn’t be bad. If the opportunity presents itself, I’m up for it.”
Airbeat LLC CEO and founder Kasey Omwanda addressed the decision to shift the concert date from December 14, 2024, to February 8, 2025. He explained that the change was made as February, being the month of love, was deemed a more suitable time, considering Christopher Martin’s reputation as a lover boy.
Omwanda also assured attendees of robust security measures, ensuring that recent concerns about unauthorized access to major events, commonly referred to as “Occupy Events,” would be effectively managed.
When asked which Christopher Martin song they would like to remix, Watendawili selected “Sweet Khaleesi,” citing its outstanding composition. Meanwhile, Chris Darlin addressed whether his set would be limited to reggae and dancehall, responding, “This event is Sounds of Africa. Africa represents many sounds. It’s not specifically a reggae or dancehall night. We have so many acts lined up.”
If the insights from the press conference are any indication, the Sounds from Africa Festival promises to be an amazing event.
