Two-time Olympic gold medalist Beatrice Chebet, says she is targeting for an elusive world championship gold medal in Tokyo this September.
The 24-year-old police officer revealed that after winning both world cross-country titles in the last summer Olympic games, her main focus will be adding a world title, the only medal missing in her collection of accolades.
She won a silver medal in 5000m at the 2022 World Championship in Oregon before settling for a bronze over the same distance in the Budapest World Championships.
“I closed last year with a world record and now am already in training for this season. I will start off my season in the Xiamen Diamond League and follow up with a few diamond leagues before the Tokyo trials, where my target is to double as I did at the Olympics. I have won the world cross-country and Olympics, and after getting silver and bronze in the last two world championships, I am n aiming for gold this year.”
The three-time world cross-country champion said she is not going for any world record this year, but should an opportunity strike up, she won’t hesitate.
“Breaking any world record is not part of the plans this year, but records are there to be broken, and if I chance it, why not?”
Chebet brags of an illustrious career in both track and road running, holding three world records: the 5 km women only, the 5 km world record mixed gender, and the 10,000 m.
