Autopax has unveiled its first electric motorcycle targeting last mile mobility especially in rural areas.

Developed jointly by TailG and Kofa over the course of four years, Autopax says the electric motorbike dubbed Cheche is specifically designed to address the mobility needs of the most remote areas across the continent.

The firm says by integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices the motorbike is not only a vehicle but a robust solution to rural Africa’s transportation challenges.

“It’s something that will revolutionize the trading, the farmers and everything that runs our country is in all these different counties that we see outside of Nairobi County. So we would love to for them to experience this. It would be much more efficient, affordable and we believe that it will create a big impact in different counties,” said Joy Kalua, CEO Autopax.

The firm has also establishment sufficient solar-powered charging stations wherever the Cheche is sold, making “Cheche” an environmentally friendly option that significantly reduces the reliance on traditional fuel sources not to mention the efficiency and convenience to each user.

“A single charge can give users around 120km depending on how they use the batteries but in achieving that they would be doing about 30pc cheaper than they would by do petrol,” added EricErik Nygard, CEO, Kofa Technologies.

The firm now plans to deploy the bikes and their supportive infrastructure in strategically selected locations to maximize impact and enhance accessibility.
