On the occasion of World Radio Day, Dakar, Senegal, will host the 2nd AUB Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction on February 13 and 14, 2025.
This international meeting, organized by the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and Senegalese Radio Television (RTS), will bring together journalists, experts, climatologists, environmentalists, policymakers, and representatives from civil society to discuss the crucial role of radio in combating climate change.
Under the theme “Reaching the Last Mile: Radio for Climate Action,” the summit will explore ways to enhance the use of radio as a tool for awareness, education, and mobilization to address climate challenges.
Why Radio?
In an increasingly connected world, radio remains a vital medium, particularly in rural areas and isolated communities. Its ability to reach large audiences, combined with its portability and resilience, makes it an essential tool for disseminating critical information about climate change and promoting prevention measures.
The summit aims to share best practices by exchanging experiences on using radio to raise awareness of the climate emergency, strengthen the capacities of journalists and radio producers in the field of climate, and foster partnerships among various stakeholders engaged in the fight against climate change.
By bringing together experts from diverse backgrounds, this summit seeks to enhance the role of radio in addressing climate change and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
