Coast region detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have arrested a drug trafficker and seized Cannabis sativa (bhang) valued at over Ksh 11 million.
The successful operation was carried out along the Samburu-Kinango road following a tip-off.
The ANU detectives laid an ambush at Mdomo Centre, intercepting a Toyota Ipsum with registration number KBJ 679M, heavily laden with the illegal substance.
Upon realizing the imminent trouble, the driver of the vehicle abandoned it and fled into a nearby thicket.
However, the co-driver, identified as Elisha Omondi, 32, was not as fortunate and was apprehended on the spot.
A search of the vehicle revealed seven green gunny sacks filled with long khaki rolls of marijuana, weighing a total of 389.45 kilograms.
The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at Ksh 11,683,500.
The arrested suspect was taken to Mombasa Urban Police Station for processing, while the confiscated drugs were secured as evidence.
Meanwhile, detectives are actively pursuing the escaped driver, confident that his capture is imminent.
