Mathare United return to premier League

2008 Kenyan Premier League winners Mathare United have been promoted to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League following their 3-0 win against Darajani Gogo in the National Super League match played Friday at Dandora Stadium, Nairobi.

Mathare United needed just a point from today’s match to seal a place in next year’s top tier. The NSL season is set to conclude at the end of this month.

Mara Sugar have already been promoted and now Mathare United joins them as the first runner up,with both sides gaining automatic promotion to FKF PL. The third placed team will battle for promotion against a third bottom placed side from the FKF PL,the two will square it off with the winner either gaining promotion or relegation .

Naivas FC,Nairobi United and former premier league side Kisumu All Stars are vying for the third spot with Naivas leading the race with 60 points,one ahead of fourth placed Nairobi United while Kisumu is ranked fifth with 60 points.

Against Darajani Gogo Mathare United got off to a bright start after Meshack Ochieno scored the first goal after 15 minutes. Steve Kimari doubled the advantage with nine minutes to go through a penalty before Fidel Otieno scored the third to round up an emphatic win.

The win consolidated Mathare United second place with 79 points ,two adrift of leaders Mara Sugar.The defeat,the 14th in the season means that Darajani Gogo remains sixth with 50 points from 36 matches.

Meanwhile Mara Sugar pipped Kibera Black Stars 1-0 at Dandora Stadium on Friday.Brian Ochieng scored the lone goal in the first half to hand the already promoted side the win.
