A man who attempted to rape a 22-year-old woman after offering her a ride is recuperating at a Kiambu hospital after a failed suicide attempt.
The incident, reported at Kandara Police Station in Murang’a on Wednesday, occurred when the woman accepted a ride home from Kaburigi Trading Centre.
The motorist, initially appearing to be a Good Samaritan, soon revealed his true intentions, attempting to assault the young woman.
The victim, however, managed to fend off the attack, unlocking the vehicle and escaping.
She then reported the incident to the police, who identified the suspect as Peter Gitau Kimani.
Upon learning that the police were closing in on him, Kimani attempted to take his own life by ingesting poison.
However, authorities arrived at his house in time to transport him to Thika Level 5 Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
Once discharged, Kimani will face charges in court.
