The sustained war on drugs and illicit brew is at an all-time high in Mombasa County with security agencies working round the clock to tackle the menace.

Speaking to the media at Makupa Police Station where 3500 brooms of bhang were nabbed and being transported through courier services disguised as dried fish, Mvita Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Ronald Mwiwawi said that it through the cooperation of vigilant citizens and security apparatus that the war against the vice will be won.

Mwiwawi added that transport companies should exercise due diligence to ensure they do proper probing of products they ferry to avert the possibility of enabling the movement of drugs and other illicit goods.

“We are working on efforts to develop a close relationship with transport companies and the citizenry to ensure we come up with swift information sharing mechanisms that will guarantee drugs do not reach our County,” said Mwiwawi.

The DCC noted that the consignment with a street value of Ksh 1.75 million like most consignments came from far flung areas with Mombasa being the final destination.

He said the government will implement strict measures that will curtail the flow of drugs and illicit goods from other areas from entering the Port city.

“Most of these drugs come from outside the County and as government we have begun setting up measures including road blocks in order to halt the movement of drugs and illicit substances into our County,” Mwiwawi added.

On his part Mvita Sub-County Police Commander Maxwell Agoro said that a multi agency approach in tackling the drug menace has gone a long way in taming the vice particularly in Mvita Sub County.

Agoro added that operations and raids are conducted on a daily basis and so far, they have managed to contain the situation to a big extent scuffling drug and substance peddling in the Sub-County.

“The multi agency approach is yielding the desired results in the onslaught on drugs and illicit substances. All police units including the National government administration officers are working closely to ensure we win this fight,” said Agoro.
