Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has called on president William Ruto to sack treasury cabinet secretary Njuguna Ndung’u, for delaying the release of NG-CDF money which MPS use to develop their constituencies.
Speaking on Wednesday, Wanyonyi claimed that although the CS had previously stated that the money would be released within 24 hours, they had subsequently been talking in circles.
“As MPs, we are putting him on notice that we will impeach him because there is nothing he is doing,” warned Wanyonyi.
The MP said that NG-CDF money has to be released urgently to facilitate bursaries and the continuity of the education of secondary and college school going children.
“The government has the ability to collect money and we don’t want to hear that there is no money. If the CS has no ability to deliver, then he must be axed and another one with ability to raise money given chance to,” he said.
“We will help the president in removing the treasury CS if he is unable to do so himself,” he said.
The outspoken Orange Democratic movement pledged to present a no confidence resolution in parliament, seeking the CS’s impeachment for failing to carry out his mission.
He disclosed that the proposal to remove the CS is being supported by the government side and stated that it simply requires a simple majority to do so.
He disclosed that each and every MP is impacted and conveyed assurance that they will all back the impeachment proposal.
He also criticised the police for interfering with an ODM leader Raila Odinga’s birthday celebration in the street.
Wanyonyi has refuted allegations made by the opposition that it is funding legal actions against the Kenya Kwanza government.
“It is not us. It is the people. There is no Azimio hand,” he said. “It’s the citizens of Kenya themselves,” he added.
Courts are there as an arbiter and, especially to check on the Executive, he argued.
“The government has its lawyers led by the Attorney general. It should consult them and know where the problem is instead of inciting the public against the Judiciary in public pronouncements,” he said.
