Volleyball: Kenya Pipeline beats KCB to clinch Bronze

Kenya Pipeline clinched Bronze at this year’s Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship after beating compatriots  KCB 3-1  18-25,25-21,25-16 25-16 in their third and fourth place play off played Saturday in Cairo,Egypt.

KCB and Pipeline had lost their semi final matches to Egyptian sides Zamalek and Al Ahly respectively.

KCB have won the African crown twice with the most recent title coming two years ago while Kenya Pipeline have been crowned winners six times with their last title coming in 2005.

During the semi finals 2022 Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship winner Kenya Commercial Bank,KCB, lost 3-1 to Zamalek.

KCB won the first set 25-22,   but home side Zamalek fought hard in the second set claiming it 25-12 and won the third with a similar margin.

Back court errors seemed to undo the Kenyan side who failed to keep at bay their opponents ferocious attack.

The fourth and final set was a see-saw affair with both sides exchanging leads and one time KCB tied the score 18-18 but  it was Zamalek who triumphed 25-21 to seal their place in the final.

In the other semi final KPC lost 3-1 to defending champions Al Ahly.

Al Ahly raced to a 7-2 lead at the first technical time out requested by KPC  and never looked back clinching the first set 25-15.KPC came back strongly winning the second set 25-19 but collapsed in subsequent sets losing 25-18 and 25-13.
