Several Kenyan authors recently took home the prestigious Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature at the latest instalment of the biennial award ceremony.
The ceremony was the culmination of the 25th edition of the Nairobi International Book Fair 2024 which ran from 25th to 29th September at the Sarit Expo Centre and saw both fresh and seasoned authors take home the award.
In the Adult Category Ngumi Kibera’s Book titled The Gambler won first place while Daniel Okello’s Kifunganjia took home the award in the Swahili category.
In the Youth Category, Veteran Journalist and author Tony Mochama took home the award in the English category with his book titled A Jacket for Ahmet while Professor John Habwe won in the Swahili category with his book Mshale wa Matumaini.
In the children’s category, the overall winner was Martin (MK) Tarus who won with his Swahili book titled Swila Arejea na Hadithi Nyingine.
In the past, the award has been given to exceptional Kenyan authors such as Okot P’Bitek, Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor Meja Mwangi, Wahome Mutahi Margaret Ogola, and Stanley Gazemba.
