Triumphant juniors jet back from East Africa athletics championships in Zanzibar

Team Kenya on arrival at JKIA

Team Kenya from the just concluded East Africa Regional Athletics Championships returned home on Sunday afternoon from Zanzibar, where they emerged winners in both the under 18 and under 20 categories as well as retaining overall title.

Kenya juniors bagged 23 medals ,12 gold,6 silver and 5 bronze medals in the championship which was held at the New AmanI Complex stadium in Zanzibar between 26th and 27th April 2024.

Gold medalists in the championships were :Carolyne Anyango in javelin,Esther Atsanga and Brian Okoth in 100m,James Gechuki and Nancy Chepng’etich in 800m,Samuel Toili,Evans Kiprono and Nancy Chepng’etich in 400m,Beatrice Machoka and Daniel Wasike in 200m and 2 gold in the 4x400m relays for boys and girls.

Kenyan silver medalists were :-Rita Mwende and Beatrice Machoka in 400m,Evans Kiprono in 200m,Judith Chemutai in 1500m and another silver for Rita Mwende in 800m.

Elykanah Edwin bagged 2 bronze medals in 1500m and 3,000m ,while Daniel Kioko and Brigit Nyatichi added a medal each in 1500m and 3000m respesctively .

Daniel Wasike bagged bronze in 400m while Carolyne Anyango wrapped up kenyan medal basket in style with a bronze in shot put.
