The Anti-Stock Theft Police Unit in Ndeiya Sub County has arrested three suspects, busting a cattle and sheep rustling operation that had plagued the region.
The suspects, a husband, his wife, and a yet to be identified individual were nabbed with a cache of stolen livestock, comprising six cows and seven sheep, taken from a farmer in Gitithia Lari Constituency.
Agitated villagers from Gitithia took matters into their own hands after a cow was reported stolen from their community, the pursuit that stretched well into the night led them to the suspects’ homestead, where the stolen animals were found.
The wife was in the midst of milking a cow, one that had been reported as stolen from a neighbouring constituency.
The arrested suspects now face legal proceedings, and the stolen livestock will be returned to their rightful owner.
