Tough CAF draw for Women’s Olympic Football qualifiers

West African Derby as well as an East African derby will highlight the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament qualifiers for African teams as per the draw conducted conducted on Tuesday.

Guinea will lock horns with Ghana in a West African derby, while Uganda will take on Rwanda in an East African duel.

A total of 25 teams have entered the Olympic qualifying tournament, with 18 starting in the 1st round whereas the remaining seven, among them Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions South Africa, will begin the competition in the 2nd round.

Nine winners from the first round will join the seven highest ranked teams for a second-round tie which will pit 16 teams after which eight winners will proceed to the 3rd round and culminate with the 4th  round where four best teams will represent the continent in next year’s Olympic Games.

The first-round matches are scheduled for July 10-18 2023, the second round October 23-31, third round February 19-28 February 2024, while the final round will be staged between April 1-9 2024.
