Former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha is dead.
In a statement, Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer James Nyamongo says Prof. Magoha collapsed at home and was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital A&E.
Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
“It is with great regret that we announce the the sudden and timely demise of Prof. George Magoha, EBS, OGW this evening at The Nairobi Hospital,” Nyamongo announced the demise of Prof. Magoha in an inter-office memorandum addressed to all admitting staff.
The demise of the former University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor and Professor of Surgery and a Consultant Urologist comes few days after he joined Maseno University as a Professor in the School of Medicine.
While making the announcement recently, the University’s Director Owen McOnyango expressed optimism that Prof. Magoha’s appointment which was to take effect immediately will help transform the department.
Ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Prof. Magoha to serve as Education Cabinet Secretary early 2019 succeeding Amb. Amina Mohammed.
Since his appointment. Prof. Magoha has been instrumental in implementing the new Competency Based Curriculum.
Prior to being named Education CS, Prof. Magoha served as the Chairperson of the Kenya National Examination Council between 2016-2019.
He was succeeded by Ezekiel Machogu who was named the new Education CS when Kenya Kwanza took the reins of power after the August 9 polls.
