A joint committee of Parliament probing the public health crisis was forced to adjourn its sitting prematurely after three Cabinet Secretaries and the Council of Governors, failed to turn up for questioning.
The committee took issue with their failure to skip the meeting and issued summons for them to appear before the Joint Health Committees of the National Assembly and the Senate on 2nd of May 2024.
The doctors’ strike entered its 44th day Friday barely a week after intense talks with SRC, Public Service Commission and both levels of government ended with no deal.
The doctors’ strike also coincides with that of the Kenya Union Clinical Officers and the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers a state of affairs that has put a strain on the public health sector.
The Public Service Commission and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission representatives were also turned away by the committee who demanded a meeting with the respective chairs.
In light of the events the bicameral health committees were forced to adjourn the meeting and ordered the Cabinets Secretaries for Health, Labor and Treasury as well as SRC and the Council of Governors appear before the joint committee next week on Thursday.
