Thousands of people took to the streets of Laayoune on Sunday to demonstrate against terror attacks on civilians in Es-Semara, the spiritual capital of the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
Participants in the march, organised by prominent locals and elected officials, angrily denounced the incident as “a terrorist act committed by enemies of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.”
Tens of thousands of people from Laayoune City and the surrounding area demonstrated their support for their fellow residents in Es-Semara, by flying the national flag in the streets and major thoroughfares of the city in response to this cowardly attack.
They called for the international community to take responsibility “to put an end to the actions of the polisario, “a terrorist entity that detains our brothers and bombs our sons,” while also denouncing this “despicable attack that targeted innocent civilians in flagrant violation of international law” with slogans.
They emphasised that these attacks, which target civilians, “attest to the failure of the separatist thesis on diplomatic, military, and political levels” and “are aimed at undermining the security and stability prevailing in the Kingdom’s southern provinces”.
The signs said, “Like Daesh, the polisario is a bunch of terrorists” , “The explosions at Es-Semara threaten the peace and safety of civilians in flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and Security Council resolutions” .
The Laayoune March came to an end when the statement of the Saharawi tribes’ Chioukhs was read.
They expressed their outrage at this aggression, which they saw as a “vain attempt by opponents of the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity to disrupt and undermine the efforts being made at regional and international level, as well as at United Nations aegis, in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the whole of its territory.
” The statement also expressed the tribes’ disapproval of international charters and conventions.
The statement stated that “the opponents have blatantly failed in their misguided attempts to discredit the significance and validity of the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, which has the advantage of, among other things, ending an unnecessarily protracted artificial war over the Sahara”.
The signatories to the statement expressed their strong disapproval of this reckless attack in the face of this dangerous scenario and reminded the aggressor that Morocco, the security of its territories, and the security of its sons constitute a red line.
In this regard, they declared that the aspirations of the separatists could not lessen the tribes’ Chioukhs’ determination to protect the Sahara with all of their hearts and minds, remaining united in support of HM King Mohammed VI and applauding all prudent and foresighted actions taken to preserve the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.
