Tension remains high in Tambalal village, Kipkomo sub-county, West Pokot County, following an eviction order issued after a prolonged land dispute that has led to protests and allegations of police brutality.
The affected residents have staged demonstrations vowing to remain on the disputed land despite a recent court ruling ordering their eviction.
They also condemned the excessive use of force by police citing an incident where officers shot and injured David Yego, a disabled man, along with several others.
Last week, the Kitale High Court ruled that the land is private leading to the displacement of more than 3,000 people.
The affected community is now appealing to the President and local leaders to intervene in resolving the dispute.
Former nominated MCA Teresa Lokichu has also urged the government to provide alternative land for resettlement.
Lokichu further claimed that the alleged landowner resides in Amudat, Uganda, and has never set foot on the disputed land.
