Tension high as man trampled by an elephant in Igembe

Tension is high at Akila Ng’ondu village in Igembe North Sub-County, Meru County after an elderly man was trampled to death by an elephant early Friday.

The deceased, identified as Kimani Ntoithabu is said to have been attacked and killed by marauding elephants from Meru National park, destroying his house and killed him instantly.

The said two elephants attacked the victim at around 9am in morning when he was asleep.

According to Jackson Kimenchu a resident Kenya Wildlife Service should be blamed for not safeguarding their animals noting that members of public had already called to give information on the said stray elephants.

Julius Karuti a neighbor to the deceased said that KWS should be held accountable and should take full responsibility of the death.

He appealed to KWS to compensate for the death and destruction and also assist in financing burial of the deceased.

The residents had something to celebrate about after getting free meat after on of the said was shot by KWS officers who responded.
