Kenya’s Angella Okutoyi is the new Africa Games tennis champion after beating her Egyptian opponent Abdelaziz Lamiz in the final in Accra,Ghana.
Okutoyi won in two sets of 6-4 6-2 to win a gold medal for Kenya at the 13th edition of the African Games ongoing in the west African nation.
Following the victory US based Okutoyi keeps alive her dream of playing at this years Olympic Games in Paris France.She needs to be among the top 400 players in the month of June.She is currently ranked 533.
The 20year old player had to endure a 4-hour semi final duel against another Egyptian opponent Mayar Sherrif.
She received a first-round bye and went on to beat Zambia’s Naomi Chileshe (6-6, 3-1) and Egypt’s Mostafa Rafaat (6-6, 3-3) in the next two rounds.
She beat Morocco’s Aya Elaouni 6-6, 4-4 to qualify for the semis.
