Team Kenya for 23rd Africa Senior Athletics Championships depart for Cameroon

Team Kenya for the 23rd Africa Senior Athletics Championships left the country early today for Douala, Cameroon, ahead of this year’s event set for June 21st to 26th.

Kenya’s team, which jetted out, is made of both track and field athletes who were selected following two-day national trials that were held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on the 21st and 22nd of last month.

Led by team leader Stephen Etyang and head coach Julius Kirwa, left the country at 7.30 a.m. aboard Kenya Airways flight 576.

The championships will serve as the last Olympic Games qualifier for many athletes who missed out on last week’s trials at Nyayo National Stadium.

Three athletes in the African bound team have already booked their tickets for Paris olympic games including Wiseman Were in 400m hurdles,Lillian Odira in 800m and Zablon Ekwam in 400m.

Other athletes in the team for the African championships who will be chasing the Olympic ticket include Mark Otieno in 100m, Sarah Moraa, Ng’eno Kipng’etich, and Nicholas Kiplagat in 800m, and the 4x400m mixed relay, as well as the 4x400m men consisting of Boniface Mweresa, Zablon Ekwam, Brian Onyari, and David Kapirante.

Kenya will be defending its overall title it won in 2022 in Mauritius, bagging 10 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze medals.
