The Director of Press Service at the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Salim Swaleh and five others have been detained until Tuesday afternoon when the court will rule on custodial orders of 14 days being sought by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi made the decision following lengthy submissions by the prosecution and defence teams which went beyond 5 p.m.
On Tuesday the court is expected to rule whether Otieno Japolo, Terry Kemunto, Daniel Omondi, Salim Swaleh, John Wabomba, James Makoha will be detained pending further investigations into alleged fraud and extortion.
The prosecution is seeking to hold them for 14 days to complete their investigations.
The defence on the other hand has requested bail pending investigations stating that the police have not provided compelling reasons to detain them.
Elsewhere, the Director of Criminal Investigations has been granted 14 days to continue detaining a middle aged woman over alleged child theft.
Evaline Bonareri Okeya was found by her neighbours with two toddlers aged 7 weeks and 3 weeks respectively.
The court was informed that preliminary investigations had revealed the children had been ferried from Vihiga County and police needed time to unravel the truth.
The court will resume on 8th July 2024 to check on the progress of the investigations.
