Suspect in Eric Maigo murder fit to stand trial

Ann Adhiambo Akinyi, the prime suspect in the murder of murder of Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Erick Maigo is fit to stand trial.

The development comes after an age and mental assessment conducted at the Mathari Hospital confirmed she is of sound mind and of adult age.

Akinyi was arrested on 27th September, 2023 at Olympic village in Kibera slums and has been in custody after the court allowed officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to hold the suspect for a period of 21 days.

She will be presented in court on October 18 after the conclusion of investigations.

According to detectives, the suspect was captured leaving Maigo’s residence at Woodley annex-Upper and is believed to have been involved in the murder before escaping through the back door.

Two blood stained knives believed to have been the murder weapons were also recovered from the scene of crime.

The body of Dr Maigo was found lying in a pool of blood bearing 25 stab wounds in the wee hours of Friday, September 15, 2023.
