Striking doctors face disciplinary action from the County government if they do not resume duty as soon as possible.
The Council of Governors while declining to specify the exact disciplinary measures noted that the industrial action now in its second week is threatening to completely paralyse medical services in public health facilities.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union wants 19 issues addressed including delayed posting of interns, extension of contracts for Universal Health Coverage staff, payment of fees for doctors on post-graduate training and payment of arrears of basic salaries as per 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Council of Governors says 10 of these demands have been addressed. The Council notes that the delayed posting of interns is a National Government issue however all internship training centres within the Counties are available to receive and welcome all interns once they are posted.
Currently, negotiations between the Ministry of Health, KMPDU and other stakeholders are ongoing.
This even as the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers and Kenya Union of Clinical Officers threaten to also go on strike.
