The Government is putting up Treatment and Rehabilitation Centres across the country.

The centres are aimed at suppressing demand, treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration of addicts.

According to the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the National Government will partner with County Governments to ensure all 47 Counties have a Rehabilitation centre offering affordable, publicly funded services to members of the public receiving treatment and rehabilitation.

The CS said, the war on illicit alcohol, narcotic drugs, and psychotropic substances entails the complete suppression of both the supply and demand.

He was speaking at Mombasa when he inspected the Miritini Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, where he picked the immediate and short-term needs to expedite its completion.

“To suppress demand, treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration of addicts remains a key objective of the Government.” Prof. Kindiki said.

The Miritini facility cost Ksh 1.3 Billion on completion, out of which Kshs 166 Million has been disbursed.

It will have treatment, rehabilitation and re-integration programs including training the recovered patients with technical skills like masonry, tailoring and enfineering crafts and providing start up capital for small businesses in line with their skills.

The Chairman of NACADA The Reverend Stephen Mairori, the CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa and the staff, as well as the Mombasa County Security and Intelligence Heads were present.
