The Government has intensified the fight against supply of fake seeds and fertilizer to farmers, State Department of Agriculture Principal Secretary Dr. Paul Rono has said.
Speaking at Bukura Agricultural college in Kakamega, the PS Rono noted that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure farmers get timely and the right seeds and fertilizers to mitigate losses.
Rono said Agro vets and suppliers who will be found culpable will serve six months imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh 1 million.
His sentiments comes a week after 700 bags of fake fertilizers were impounded in Kakamega prompting the ministry to launch an investigation of the matter to save over 6 million farmers who rely on agriculture for survival.
During the 27th graduation ceremony, 1,123 grandaunts graduated with certificates and diplomas in the field of agriculture, a big boost to the sector where experts are needed dearly.
