The Salaries and Remuneration Commission could close in January due to funding challenges.
SRC Chairperson Lyn Mengich told the National Assembly’s Committee on Labour that the commission is currently in a dire financial predicament which could see it shutting in January next year.
The government last month ordered a budget cut of 10pc across ministries and state agencies as part of fiscal consolidation plan that seeks to contain the fiscal deficit.
Mengich in a meeting with legislators on Monday, disclosed that the budget has been progressively reducing over the years with the recent budget cut of Ksh 61 million that could affect service delivery from next year.
SRC argued that its work has helped the country reduce the wage bill from the previous 51pc of Kenya’s total revenue to the current 43pc and now want parliament to intervene to have their budgetary allocation reviewed upwards.
