Ulinzi Starlets beat Kisumu All Starlets 2-1 at Ulinzi Complex.


Ulinzi Starlets won their second match of the 2022/23 season after beating Kisumu All Starlets 2-1 during Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League match played at Ulinzi Complex, Langata, Nairobi.

The win moved Ulinzi to within 2 points of leaders Vihiga Queens who sit top with 9 points from three matches.

Ulinzi Starlets began the year in an emphatic fashion registering their second win in as many games of the top flight campaign .

Everline Juma set Ulinzi on course with an opening goal five minutes after kick off.

Mercy Airo scored her second goal in two games, capitalizing on Kisumu Starlets defensive lapse to hand the army side a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.

Starlets who have one win in four matches staged comeback efforts late in the game with Berverline Adika getting on the score sheet for the lake side based team.

The win catapults Ulinzi  to second place with a total of 7 points from four matches.

‘’It was a must win game,there was a lot of pressure because our opponents won on Saturday so it was important we win to keep up with the pace’’,said Ulinzi Starlets head coach Joseph Mwanza.

Mercy Ayiro revealed that the striking force was under pressure to perform.

‘’We had several chances and failed to convert them,we are playing against Thika Queens in our next match and such games are won by just a single chance,so we must work hard to do better in the coming matches’’,remarked Ayiro.

 Kisumu Starlets head coach Juma Said decried the sharpness of his forward line vowing to bounce back in their fifth fixture adding that the inadequate time to prepare cost them

‘’The energy levels was not good due to the short break that we took on 30th and 31st we came back late and it has not worked well for us’’,said Juma Said.

Kisumu face Wadadia at home in their next league action.
