Manutd players in celebration after victory against Betis

Manchester United cruised into the Europa League quarter-finals with a 5-1 aggregate win over Real Betis after Marcus Rashford's 27th goal of the season sealed a 1-0 victory in Spain.

Rashford broke the deadlock just shy of the hour with a stunning strike from range to kill off the tie and end Betis' hopes of a miraculous comeback. The Spanish side had looked the more dangerous up until that point

The 25-year-old is already in his most productive season in front of goal and remains the highest scorer in the Europa League with six goals from eight matches.

His impressive form has continued since club football resumed following the World Cup as he has scored 19 goals in 24 appearances.

Meanwhile it was penalty shootout heartbreak for Arsenal at the end of an epic Europa League last-16 tie with Sporting, as Gabriel Martinelli's shot was saved from the spot to allow the Portuguese side to progress to the quarter-finals after the sides had drawn 1-1 on the night and 3-3 on aggregate.

Even before the shootout, which the visitors won 5-3, it was a second leg that had it all.

A sensational long-range chip by Pedro Goncalves from 46 yards forced extra time after Arsenal's Granit Xhaka had earlier pounced on a rebound for the opener.

"A huge blow, we really wanted to go through and fight for the competition. Congratulations to Sporting Lisbon for going through.

"We didn't find our rhythm and flow, we allowed too many spaces, and gave the ball away many, many times. In the last 20 minutes we got the flow, created three big chances and we didn't score. In extra-time we showed incredible energy again and top mentality and we had two big chances. But in the penalty shootout it's a lottery." Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said

The draw for the Europa League quarter-finals takes place on Friday March 17 in Nyon, Switzerland at UEFA's headquarters. The semi-final draw will also be made.
