Kenya wins Bronze at Africa Junior Hockey Championship

The national under 21 men hockey team gave a good account of themselves after winning Bronze at the recently concluded Africa Hockey Junior Championship in Ismailia,Egypt.
Kenya beat Zimbabwe 2-1 to finish third settled in the tournament that attracted four teams from the continent.
In the group matches played on round robbin Kenya lost to Egypt and South Africa 1-0 and 6-0 respectively before bouncing back to see off Zimbabwe 3-1.
Speaking on arrival from the championship at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hewd coach Michael Malungu appraised his charges saying the tourney offered the side plenty of lessons.
“it was a very nice experience having represented Kenya in the African junior tournament. Our aim was to finish on top but managing third position wasn’t’ a joke considering the tough competition”, he said.
“Early preparation and early traveling is one of those lessons we learnt form the competition. We arrived in Ismailia the same day we lost 1-0 against the hosts “ Malungu added.
South Africa won the title after defeating Egypt 4-3 .
Meanwhile the Kenya ladies side failed to register a win in their three group games after losses to hosts Egypt,South Africa and Zimbabwe.
South africa clinched the women’s title as well after narrowly edging out Zimbabwe 1-0.
Following the win the men’s champions will represent Africa at the Junior Hockey World Cup due in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia in December while the women winners will participate at the Women’s World Cup scheduled in December in Santiago,Chile.
