Construction works of Bomet Stadium stalled in 2014 soon after it was launched by the county government.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba inspected the Bomet County Stadium, reitarating the governments commitment to give the sporting arena a face lift suiting CAF/fifa standards.

Speaking while on an inspection tour of the stalled construction works at the County stadium the Sports CS noted that a section of the Stadium will be demolished and reconstructed afresh to meet international standards.

‘’This is part of the Ministry's goal to upgrade most of the stadium facilities across the country to FIFA/CAF standards in readiness for the government's bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament’’, remarked Ababu.

Namwamba assured that the Stadium, which stalled after being put up by the Bomet county government in 2014, will receive a facelift and will be reconstructed under a new master plan developed by the government.

‘We are finalising a Sports & Arts Infrastructure Masterplan that will guide government in coherent development to avoid haphazard past errors that have dotted the country with costly white elephants’’, Ababu said.

The CS was accompanied by Bomet governor Prof Hillary Barchok, Director General of Sport Kenya Pius Metto, Bomet County Commissioner Dr Ahmed Omar among other leaders from the region.
