Afc Leopards and Gor Mahia FC battled to a 0-0 draw at Nyayo National stadium

The 95th Mashemeji derby pitting AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia ended in a barren draw, Sunday,at the Nyayo National Stadium.


In a well attended meeting between Kenya’s soccer sides with fierce rivalry,the battle for honour and pride was at stake and neither Afc nor Gor wanted to lose.


With each side coming into the encounter at the backdrop of back to back wins it was Gor who have picked 9 points from a possible 15 in their last 5 games,who threatened first with an enticing cross from right winger Bonface Odhiambo being cleared by Leopards defence in haste.

Afc who,prior to the game  had not dropped a point in three games responded with their top marksman this campaign centre forward Ojo Olaniyi hitting straight in the palms  of Gor Mahia Goalkeeper Gad Mathews.

Cliff Nyakeya had close attempts for Afc in the closing stages of the first half with his first being through a free kick at the edge of the box and an audacious curved effort that was well read by Gad.

After a scoreless first half both sides returned determined to outdo one another.

Afc Leopards Victor Omune 14 yard effort in the 46th minute was tipped over the cross bar by Gor Mahia custodian.

Gor Mahia Benson Omalla who had a relatively quiet tested AFC leopards goalkeeper Levis Opiyo with a long range effort in the 75th minute.

Susbsitute Saad Musa entry into AFC midfield reignited the side with his pinpoint crosses causing problems to Gor Mahia’s defence.

Both sides held on to snatch a point with Gor Mahia moving to second place ,dislodging Tusker,on a superior gial difference,with 24 points from 11 matches. Nzoia sits top with 27 points but has played two more games than Kogallo.

The draw  moved Ingwe to 8th place with 18 points.
