The national novices championship enter penultimate stage this weekend at Umoja Social Hall,Nairobi.

Kelvin Muhindi of Kilifi defeated Stanley Okole of Vihiga on points in the Light Welter Weight category as the 2023 Boxing Federation of Kenya Novices championship got underway at Umoja 1 Boxing Hall in Nairobi.

George Wangai of Kisumu lost to Fred Nyutu of Trans Nzoia in the same weight category, Lee Njorohio of Nairobi ‘A’ humbled Caleb Wandera of Nakuru on points, while Asharaf Ouma saw off  Caleb Juma of Kajiado.

In the Lightweight category, Robert Wambugu of Nairobi ‘A’ defeated Jabul Hussein of Siaya on points, Elisha Omondi of Homabay lost to Abdul Mageli of Busia while Joseph Adulusi of Nairobi defeated Iddi Komora of Mombasa.

In the Welter Weight category, Paul Kimani of Kiambu silenced Michael Michumo of Kilifi.

The Kenya Novices championship was attended by top boxing officials among them Boxing Federation of Kenya president Anthony “Jamal” Ombok and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

The championship is expected to end this weekend.
