Seven people died on the spot Saturday evening Timau town along the Meru-Nyanyuki Highway after a lorry carrying building blocks ploughed into pedestrians.
Buuri sub-county police commander Laura Imbacha who confirmed the accident, said several people sustained serious injuries.
Imbacha disclosed that the accident occurred at about 6.30pm after a truck carrying building stones lost control before ramming into pedestrians.
The fatal accident also involved a motorcycle, and the rider died on the spot. According to eyewitnesses, some pedestrians died after being hit by the building blocks.
Good samaritans rushed those injured to medical facilities in Timau and Nyanyuki towns.
