Scrabble: Kenya picks its best ahead of World Youth Games

The Kenyan team that will participate in the forthcoming World Youth Scrabble Championship has been selected after intensive selection exercise in Mombasa County.

A team of 10 players was finally selected together with five reserves ahead of the global tournament scheduled 6th– 8th September in Citrus Waskaduwa,Sri Lanka.

A total of 74 students competed in the national trials.

Joy Njeri emerged as  the best player in the under 15 years category and will be heading to Sri Lanka together with Lindsey Cherop and Tracy Wambui who finished second and third respectively in the category.

Israel Ochieng was the best player in the under 19 years category as he won the gold ahead of Emmanuel Wandera and Bedan Odhiambo who finished in the silver and bronze positions respectively.

Starehe Boys Centre was the best school, having beaten Kahuhia girls and Bumala secondary who were second and third respectively.
