University students from the Mt. Kenya region, including those from the University of Nairobi, have expressed their gratitude to President William Ruto for nominating Geoffrey Ruku, the Mbeere North Member of Parliament, as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital and Special Programs.

The students, many from semi-arid areas like Mbeere North that have long faced educational challenges, praised Ruku’s significant impact on the education sector during his tenure as MP.

They acknowledged his efforts to increase bursary allocations from Ksh 5,000 to between Ksh 8,000 and Ksh 10,000, easing financial burdens on struggling families and enabling more students to access education.

“For years, education in Mbeere North lagged behind due to various challenges,” said one student.

“However, Ruku’s leadership has been transformative, particularly in making education more accessible. His efforts to reduce school fees for day scholars have greatly relieved many families.”

The students also lauded Ruku’s role in establishing funding for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and enhancing educational infrastructure.

“Under his leadership, we have seen tangible progress in JSS funding and the development of crucial educational facilities, significantly improving the learning environment,” noted another student.

They believe Ruku’s appointment will strengthen his commitment to advancing education and public service.

“His dedication to improving educational access and infrastructure gives us hope for the future,” added another student.

The students are optimistic that Ruku’s new role will allow him to continue driving development in the public sector and create greater opportunities for future generations.
