President William Ruto has outlined a series of urgent priorities aimed at tackling some of the most pressing issues facing the nation.

Speaking on Friday when he unveiled the first batch of 11 Cabinet nominees, Ruto announced that the government will immediately roll out programs that focus on addressing economic and social challenges affecting the lives of Kenyans.

The head of state underscored the need for accelerated programmes to boost food production in addition to other interventions to reduce the cost of living.

Ruto also highlighted the necessity to expand existing job-creation programs and develop new initiatives to address youth unemployment.

Additionally, he stressed the need for a public conversation on management of public resources.

“The necessity for a public conversation on innovative, prudent, transparent, and accountable use of public resources, along with people-friendly mechanisms for domestic resource mobilisation and reducing public expenditure,” Ruto stated.

To tackle the challenge of public debt, President Ruto proposed the establishment and implementation of clear mechanisms to reduce public borrowing to shield the country from the risks associated with debt accumulation.

Ruto further committed to constituting a more inclusive government that unlocks the potential of citizens from all sectors to drive national transformation.

“It is of utmost importance that the Government takes measures to affirm our commitment to actualising the people’s aspirations, assure citizens that the State exists to serve them efficiently and with integrity, and to signal to all that our national values and principles of governance are the foundation of our national dispensation.”

President Ruto dissolved his entire Cabinet on July 11 following nationwide youth-led protests demanding accountability and improved governance.
