The Qatar government has financed the rehabilitation and expansion of a Mosque for Muslim learners at Mount Kenya University in Thika Campus in Kiambu County. The newly expanded mosque will reduce the overstretch of worshipers and make a conducive environment for learners in the institution.
Speaking during the handover of the mosque to the learning institution, the Ambassador of the state of Qatar to Kenya Mohammed Mutair Al- shamlani Al- Anzi said his country would continue to cooperate with Kenya in various fields that are keen to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
For years, Muslim faithful students at the Mount Kenya University in Thika Campus in Kiambu County have been worshiping in their small residential rooms or sometimes praying on verandas due to their high population.
However, the learners at the higher learning institution have a reason to smile after the state of Qatar government through the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs financed the upgrading of a local mosque.
The mosque boasts of adequate facilities such as a red carpet, a loudspeaker system, electricity, and water, and contains a fully equipped library with Quran books. Speaking during the handover of the mosque to the institution management the Ambassador of the state of Qatar to Kenya Mohammed Mutair Al- shamlani Al- Anzi said his country will continue to cooperate with Kenya in various fields of interest between the two nations.
The diplomat also planted a commemoration tree as he urged Kenyans to back the government’s efforts to green the country. The new Mosque has a capacity of over 1500 worshippers.
