Medical Services Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai on Friday convened a meeting with representatives from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to discuss Kenya’s commitment to the UNFPA Supplies Compact, signed in 2023.

The meeting aimed to reaffirm the Government obligations under the Compact and outline the financial contributions and modalities for implementation.

According to the partnership agreement, the government will provide counterpart funding of 10% based on UNFPA’s contribution in the previous financial year, with a yearly increase of 10%.

Furthermore, the disbursement of the counterpart funding will adhere to the reimbursement modality as per Kenya’s Public Finance Management laws and regulations.

The signed compact specifies the contributions to be made by the Government, amounting to USD 172,600 for the fiscal year 2023/2024, which is 10% of USD 1,726,000, and USD 345,200 for the fiscal year 2024/2025, constituting 20% of USD 1,726,000.

Additionally, the government has affirmed its commitment to honoring the financial commitments before June 30 to ensure timely support for UNFPA initiatives.
