President William Ruto on Saturday joined world leaders who extended a message of goodwill to the Chinese people, as they welcomed the Lunar New Year.
This year’s celebrations, popular as the Spring Festival in China, have been recognized and observed as a United Nations holiday for the first time. 2024 is the year of the dragon.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Kenya and that of my own, I convey to Your Excellency and through you to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China, best wishes for a Happy Chinese New Year 2024,” said Ruto
“As you welcome the Year of the Dragon, which symbolizes good health, good luck, power, strength, and wisdom,” added the President in his message to Beijing
President Ruto indicated that it was his desire that the Government and people of Kenya progress along the path that we have jointly charted for the Kenya-China strategic partnership.
The head of state further gave an assurance that his administration will continue to offer much-needed support to the Chinese business community in the country to run their operations smoothly for the benefit of all.
“I also confirm to you that members of the Chinese community in Kenya receive the support they need to feel at home away from home, as they make their contribution to the transformative partnership between Kenya and China,” he said
On 14th December 2023, Kenya and China celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Over the period, Ruto says the two countries have forged and enjoyed warm and strong relations based on friendship, mutual trust, and commitment to progress.
He said Kenya and China have nurtured these ideals into a strategic partnership not only for mutual benefit.
