Meru County is expected to realize increased power access with the launch of a new power substation in Imenti South Constituency.

Speaking during his second day development tour of Mount Kenya region where he commissioned Nkuene Electricity Sub-Station, President Ruto said the project which is among many power projects in the region will help spur economic growth.

“Electricity is no longer a luxury, but a necessity for every Kenyan. We have, therefore, made it reliable and affordable, connecting more households to power to spur entrepreneurship and economic transformation,” said President Ruto.

At least 20,000 households are expected to benefit from over 375 electricity projects being implemented in Buuri, Central Imenti, Igembe Central, Igembe North, Igembe South, North Imenti, Tigania East and Tigania West constituencies.

During the development tour, the President also commissioned the Kibiru Beef Feedlot in Tigania West constituency.

The facility is meant to significantly boost livestock production in the region, both for local consumption and export.

“We are empowering our farmers to enhance livestock production by restocking animals lost to drought, promoting value addition, and ensuring access to reliable markets to drive livestock commercialisation,” he added.

“Our objective is to make livestock farming a viable and profitable enterprise, one that puts money in the pockets of our farmers and transforms their livelihoods

The Wednesday tour also saw 10,800 title deeds issued to residents of Tigania in a move that will enable them to benefit directly from the Ksh 40 billion Meru Energy Park, which will offer them financial returns for the use of their land.
