A major power outage hit the country at midnight, plunging most parts of the country into darkness.
Reports suggest that the blackout disrupted internet connectivity for many organisations that operate 24 hrs.
“We are experiencing a widespread power outage affecting most of the country, except parts of the Western and North Rift regions. The cause of this outage is yet to be determined,” Kenya Power said in a statement at 1:28 a.m.
At 7.35 am this morning it announced that power supply had been restored to most parts of the country.
The power utility company said electricity had been restored to North Rift, Central Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, Nairobi, and Mount Kenya region sections.
The outage, which is the latest in a series of recurring power disruptions in the country, is reported to have affected most parts of Kenya, with the exception of the Western and North Rift regions, which continued to have power supply.
KPLC appealed to its over 9.6 million customers to be patient as the company works to restore supply.
The longest power outage in Kenya occurred on August 25 last year, when Kenya Power attributed the fault to Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP).
However, LTWP defended itself, shifting the blame to the power grid as the cause of the outage.
