The Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) drills around Taiwan Island serve as a stern warning and strong deterrent to the separatist forces on the island, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.
Citing statements made by the PLA Eastern Theater Command and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, the spokesperson stressed at a press conference in Beijing that the drills are legitimate and necessary to defend national sovereignty and safeguard national unity.
