In July 2023, the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi embarked on a historic state visit to Kenya, marking the first visit by an Iranian head of state to Africa in over a decade.
President Raisi arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on July 12, 2023, where he was received by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
He then proceeded to State House where he was received by his host President William Ruto and accorded an elaborate State reception ceremony that included a Guard of Honour and a 21-gun salute.
The two leaders signed several MoUs and agreements in the areas of agriculture, livestock, culture and heritage, information, ICT, fisheries, housing, urban and metropolitan development.
Iran President Ebrahim Raisi was confirmed dead this morning following a helicopter crash.
Raisi was heading to the city of Tabriz, in the north-west of Iran, after returning from a dam opening ceremony on the Azerbaijan border
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also killed in Sunday’s crash, along with several others.
