Over 400 students are expected to converge in Kenya for the International Schools Federation (ISF) World Cross Country Championships set for Ngong Racecourse this Sunday, May 12th.
So far, 419 students from 22 countries have confirmed their participation, with international delegations set to jet in on Wednesday night in readiness for the one-day event.
Countries that have confirmed participation include Chile, Uganda, Qatar, China, England, Ireland, Morocco, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Namibia, Mexico, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Nigeria, Croatia, Turkey, Luxembourg, Uganda,Uganda and host Kenya.
The championships will also be graced by ISF president Laurent Petrynka, with Kenya being the second nation in Africa to stage the event after Marrakech, Morocco, in 2000.
Athletes will compete in the Under 12, Under 15, and Under 18 categories for both boys and girls.
Kenya boasts the largest contingent of athletes (60), followed by East African neighbor Tanzania, which has 29 athletes.
The championships are organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Athletics Kenya.
