Over 350,000 people have been registered for the Inua Jamii programme countrywide since the registration exercise began 8 days.
The registration which is ongoing until the end of this month targets to list 500,000 vulnerable people including orphans, people with severe disabilities, and elderly people of 70 years and above.
Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Joseph Motari announced the update during his visit to Ngerenya registration center in Kilifi revealing that they have been working hard to handle the huge number of citizens and assured the public that every qualified person for the programme will be listed.
Accompanied by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya and other leaders, the PS said that the administration and local leaders have given tremendous support towards the exercise and tackled every to make the registration run smoothly and fast.
He further said that the government has given full support to the vulnerable people in the society adding that the registration will a go long way to ensure they get the needed financial support every month as directed by President William Ruto.
During his address to the media, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya said most of the elderly persons are suffering from many health conditions, therefore, expressed his hope that the Inua Jamii programme will save thousands of the newly registered citizens from possible early death due to extreme poverty in their families.
Rabai MP Kenga Mupe applauded the government’s efforts to support more people in the Inua Jamii programme and promised to use his machinery to support the registration exercise to take place from door to door to ensure no qualified person in Rabai constituency is left out.
