Siaya Governor James Orengo has bolstered his team through the appointment of new County Chief Officers to support the delivery of his Nyalore Manifesto.

Key among these appointments is the CCO Agriculture, food security, livestock and fisheries Elizabeth Adongo, the Governor’s big agenda docket.

The new appointee, Adongo, at a first glance is an unlikely candidate by virtue of having worked in high level Government offices for the last 10 years.

She served three cabinet secretaries; Public Service, Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary (CS), Professor Margaret Kobia, Governor Ann Waiguru and Water CS, Sicily Kariuki.

However, her rich track record, focused majorly on economic empowerment and public institution strengthening both critical to help support her in the new role.

Adongo has indicated that one of her key priorities and immediate focus will be to ensure that the ongoing farmers’ registration exercise in the County is successful. Adding that data is key to effective development and implementation of policies, this exercise provides the good baseline to guide our implementation.

Adongo has the huge task of ensuring the County’s farming sector (mainly subsistence) transforms towards commercialization even as it addresses issues of food security.

In this context, the new leadership will be expected to strengthen existing and new partnerships to provide technical and financial support.

Does this mark a key turning point in Governor Orengo’s administration? We remain hopeful.
